Meeting Between Colleagues

Through workshops, presentations, digital storytelling, and open-access materials, we hope to cultivate a space where innovation literacy can thrive — where curiosity leads, understanding follows, and everyone feels empowered to engage with the technologies shaping our future.

We Engage

We Are Curious.

ORBIT LAB is a student-driven initiative based at the University of Toronto, born out of a shared passion for understanding the origins of innovation and making scientific and technological knowledge more accessible to all.

Founded by students of the INF1003 course “Information Systems, Services, and Design,” our lab brings together curious minds from diverse disciplines to investigate how transformative technologies come into being — and how those innovations shape, and are shaped by, people, institutions, and culture.

Innovation Is Not Mysterious

We believe that innovation is not a mysterious flash of genius, but a process that can be studied, understood, and even nurtured. Our mission is to explore the stories behind major breakthroughs, analyze the patterns of knowledge creation, and develop tools and content that help demystify emerging technologies for the public.

By combining case study research, critical thinking, and creative communication, we seek to bridge the gap between the academic world and public understanding. Whether it's tracing the invention of the QR code, exploring the evolution of large language models, or unpacking the hype around blockchain, ORBIT LAB is committed to telling these stories in ways that are engaging, informative, and inclusive.
